Posey Dillon was unanimously re-elected vice mayor of Rocky Mount at town council's reorganizational meeting Thursday, as new members, Bobby Cundiff and Bobby Moyer, took office.
Dillon has served on town council for 24 years, including 10 years as vice mayor. He served on council from 1980 to 2000. He was vice mayor from 1992 to 2000, and from 2008 to 2010.
Cundiff and Moyer, who were elected to town council in May, participated in the reorganizational meeting.
They replaced Roger Seale, who did not seek re-election in May, and John Lester, who lost his bid for a new term.
At the reorganizational meeting, town council unanimously reappointed the town's top administrative officers, Town Manager James Ervin, Town Attorney John Boitnott and Town Clerk Patīž Keatts.
Council also reappointed Dillon, who is chief of the Rocky Mount Volunteer Fire Department, as the town fire marshal.
Name plates for the new council members, Cundiff and Moyer, were in place on the council dais for their first meeting.
The other winners in the May election were Mayor Steve Angle and Councilman Jerry Greer, who were re-elected for new terms.
At Thursday's meeting, Angle also appointed the members of town council's six standing committees.
The members of the committees are:
"Community and Economic Development: Greg Walker, chairman; Cundiff; and Dillon.
"Finance and Human Services: Robert Strickler, Moyer and Cundiff.
"Public Facilities and Special Events: Moyer, chairman; Walker, and Greer.
"Public Safety: Greer, chairman; Walker and Moyer.
"Public Utilities: Cundiff, chairman; Dillon and Strickler.
