Thanks to a $1,000 grant, a non-profit organization in Boones Mill that offers therapeutic horse riding lessons for those with mental and physical disabilities, will now be able to accept toddlers into its program.

The organization is called Unbridled Change, which has been providing therapy for individuals using horses since 2008.

The grant was provided by Foundation for Roanoke Valley, a community foundation that receives donations from citizens and disperses funding to charitable organizations, according to Karenna Glover, a public relations spokesperson for Access Advertising that works with Unbridled Change.

Before the grant was awarded, Unbridled Change was unable to take youngsters under the age of 5 because the program did not have the equipment for them. This included appropriate saddles, riding helmets and stirrups, which will allow these children to safely enjoy the benefits of therapeutic riding.

The grant has allowed Unbridled Change to take these children under age 5 off the waiting list and begin enrolling them in therapy. They have already begun lessons, Glover said.

In addition to providing therapy for children and adults,

Unbridled Change also provides its services to at-risk children, Glover said.

The program operates year round.
