Franklin County school officials will hold the final H1N1 vaccine clinics in four elementary schools today (Jan. 8).
School and health department nurses will give the vaccine to students who have not been previously been vaccinated.
Clinics will be held at Callaway and Ferrum in the morning and at Dudley and Glade Hill in the afternoon.
Most elementary students in the county have received the vaccine during the past month as it has become available from the West Piedmont Health District.
The countywide clinic, which was postponed because of snow last month, has not been rescheduled.
Both the nasal mist and the injection (shots) vaccines have been available.
Nurses have administered the vaccine at no cost to students whose parents gave permission for the inoculations.
Some school employees also received the vaccine because a flu outbreak among the school staffs could hamper school operations.
The vaccine was given to elementary students first.
Bonnie Feldt, epidemiologist with the West Piedmont Health District, said the H1N1 vaccine is safe, and it cannot give the flu to a child or adult. |
