A Ferrum man was charged with manslaughter in the Nov. 17 shooting death of a Ferrum College student in a hunting related accident.
In addition to the manslaughter charge, Jason David Cloutier, 31, was charged with reckless handling of a firearm and trespassing in connection with the shooting death of Jessica Goode, 23.
Student Regis Boudinot, 20, was struck by the same bullet that struck Goode, according to Lt. Karl Martin with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.
The bullet entered Boudinot's right arm and exited through his hand, Martin said.
Goode was on property just west of the college when the shooting took place. She was there with two other students to gather specimens for a science class, a school spokesperson said.
The day after the shooting, hundreds of students and staff filled Vaughn Chapel to grieve Goode's death and celebrate her life.
Cloutier is free on $20,000 bond. A hearing or trial date has not be set. |
