A Waidsboro man died following an explosion in his mobile home on Route 40 West on May 15.
Kermit L. Shively, 83, died at the University of Virginia burn unit on May 16, according to Capt. Patrick Meeks with the Franklin County Department of Public Safety.
Shively suffered second-degree burns over 75 percent of his body, Meeks said.
A gas leak filled the mobile home at 5832 Franklin Street with propane, which was ignited by a spark from an unknown source, according to Fire Marshal Bennie Russell.
This was the only fire fatality in 2009, Russell said. |
