A Union Hall man was killed when his motorcycle struck a deer and slid underneath a truck on Route 40 East early Monday morning.
David Leslie Haldaman, 47, was traveling west on Route 40 when his 1982 Kawasaki motorcycle struck a deer, according to Senior Trooper J.T. Haynes with the Virginia State Police.
The motorcycle laid over on its side and slid into an oncoming Southern States feed truck, driven by Ray Turpin Jr., 56, of Christiansburg, Haynes said.
"There was nothing the truck driver could do," the trooper said.
No charges have been filed, Haynes added.
Haldaman was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident, which occurred about 6:40 a.m. on Old Franklin Turnpike, about one-tenth of a mile east of Turtle Hill Road (Route 869), the trooper said.
This is the eighth fatality on Franklin County roads this year. |
