Rocky Mount's residential water and sewer rates are below the average for localities, both statewide and regionally, based on a new statewide report.
Rocky Mount's residential rate for 5,000 gallons of water per month is $17.95 for customers inside the town, compared to a statewide average of $25.72 for water providers across the state.
Rocky Mount's residential sewer rate for 5,000 gallons is $17.85, compared to a statewide average of $31.45
according to the 2009 report by Draper Aden Associates, a consulting engineering firm headquartered in Blacksburg.
Rocky Mount's charge for 5,000 gallons for customers outside the town is $35.90, compared to the statewide average of $37.64
The statewide survey of water and sewer rates included cities, towns, counties, public service authorities and sanitary districts throughout Virginia.
Statewide, the average monthly residential rates for 5,000 gallons of water increased by 4.8 percent during the past year, according to the report.
The average monthly residential rate increased by 6.8 percent.
Rocky Mount's connection fees for water and sewer service are lower than the state average. Rocky Mount's fee is $1,000 each for water and sewer service. The state average is $1,894 for water service and $2,440 for sewer service.
Residential water rates for 5,000 gallons in nearby localities inside their corporate limits include: Ferrum Water and Sewerage Authority, $32; Boones Mill, $33; Bedford City, $18.20; Henry County Public Service Authority, $30; Martinvillle, $19.61; Western Virginia Water Authority (Roanoke County), $20.50; and Western Virginia Water Authority (Roanoke City), $19.80.
Residential sewer rates for 5,000 gallons in nearby localities include: Ferrum Water and Sewerage Authority, $28.50; Boones Mill, $33; Bedford City, $33.35; Henry County Public Service Authority, $30; Martinsville, $19.88; Western Virginia Water Authority (Roanoke County), $25; and Western Virginia Water Authority (Roanoke City), $24.
