Veterans Day ceremony planned

The fifth annual Veterans' Day service at the Franklin County Veterans' Memorial Park will be held Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.

Lt. Col. Larry Moore of Rocky Mount, U.S. Army Ret., will be the featured speaker, along with former Congressman Virgil Goode.

Wayne Outlaw of Rocky Mount, N.C., former president of Ruritan National, will also speak.

Special music will be provided by Rev. Roger and Susie Jones with Living Waters Assembly of God. They will sign a duet of "More Than a Name on the Wall."

The Wright Kids of Rocky Mount will sing the National Anthem.

Col. Dan Agee of Callaway, U.S. Army Ret., will lead the Pledge to Allegiance. SSgt. Harry Coates and Cpl. Desmond Hale will place the wreath in front of the monument.

Doris Eames, representing the Franklin County Historical Society, will present World War II awards.

Rev. John Collins with Rocky Mount Church of the Brethren will open the ceremony with a prayer, while Brandon Osgood and Nick Weinschreider of the Franklin County High School Marching Eagles Band, will play "Taps" to conclude the program.

Charles Wagner, chairman of the Franklin County Board of Supervisors, will offer the opening remarks.

Rev. Eddie Hanks and members of the Woodlawn Baptist Church will host veterans and their families for a free lunch at the church on North Main Street. It will be held immediately following the program.

A golf cart shuttle will be provided both before and after the service, according to B.W. Wright Jr., chairman of Rocky Mount's Franklin County Veterans' Memorial Park Committee.
