Bradley S. Rees, a Bedford County resident, said he will seek the Republican Party nomination to run for the Fifth District seat in the House of Representatives in 2010.
Rees said he is seeking the GOP nomination because the party has strayed from its conservative roots.
The current tax system is unfair, he said.
Rees, 31, said he supports the Fair Tax, which would eliminate income taxes and establish a national sales tax.
He is the former Lynchburg Area Community Coordinator for Americans for Fair Taxation, who are trying to implement the Fair Tax.
Rees, who is a factory worker, said he is the underdog in the race.
Rees said he is beginning his campaign early to build name recognition.
Former Congressman Virgil H. Goode Jr., a Franklin County Republican, is expected to seek the GOP nomination to run against Rep. Tom Perriello, a Democrat, in 2010.
Perriello defeated Goode in November 2008 in one of the biggest political upsets in Virginia history.
Goode has not announced his plans for 2010, but many of his supporters expect him to run.
If there is contest for the GOP nomination to run against Perriello, the party would hold either hold a convention or a primary. |
