Franklin County has placed 21 players on the 2009 All-Western Valley District girls' and boys' soccer teams as voted on by the league's head coaches.
Earning first team laurels on the girls' team are Victoria Bruce (forward), Crissy Moran (goalkeeper), Lilah Phillips (midfielder) and Margaret Parcell (forward), all of whom return next season.
Bruce, who will be a fourth-year varsity player next season, led FCHS in scoring in 2009.
Named to the second team are Kayla Bruce and Kristen Sicher, both of whom return for the Eagles next season.
Receiving honorable mention recognition are Hailey Turner, Kathleen Carey, Taylor Weidman, Tayler Wiseman and Connor Wood, all of whom return next season except for Weidman, one of only four seniors on this past season's 10-7 club.
The Eagles, coached by Moe Potter, finished third in the WVD behind league champion E.C. Glass and Patrick Henry, both of which qualified for the Northwest Regionals.
FCHS bested William Fleming in the quarterfinals of the WVD's postseason tournament, then lost to PH in the semifinals.
Kate Norbo, PH's top player and a University of Virginia signee, is the league's Player of the Year for the third consecutive year.
E.C. Glass head coach Darien McClurg, who guided the Hilltoppers to the district championship and the league's postseason tournament title, is the Coach of the Year.
Glass has won both the league's regular-season and tournament crowns each of the last five years and six times during its WVD tenure, a term that ended this season. This fall, Glass enters the Group AA Seminole District in all sports.
On the boys' side, seniors Jon Woodard, Stuart Woodard, both defenders, and Kyle McCullough, a midfielder, and junior Jose Villegas, a midfielder, are second team choices.
Receiving honorable mention citations are senior midfielder Zach Gilkeson, sophomore goalkeeper Devin Castillo, sophomore midfielder Levi Wray, freshman midfielder Tom Johnson, senior defender Shawn Ferguson and junior forward Josh Saunders.
FCHS, coached by Michael Crossan, finished the season with a 5-12-1 record.
The Eagles came in fifth in the WVD, but advanced to the semifinals of the league's postseason tournament with a 2-1 overtime win over GW Danville.
In the semifinals, FCHS lost to league champion PH.
PH's Fayanga Keita, a senior, is the district's Player of the Year for the second year in a row and Patriots head coach Chris Dowdy is the Coach of the Year.
Both were instrumental in leading PH to a sweep of the league's regular-season and tournament championships for the second year in a row.
The Patriots captured the Northwest Region championship and advanced to the Group AAA state tournament for the first time in school history.
PH is 23-0-1 over the past two seasons against league opposition.
The Patriots placed seven players on the 15-player first team.
Glass had four, first team players, while William Fleming had three and Danville had one.
