Kimberly Jones, a guidance counselor at Callaway Elementary School, has been named Franklin County's Teacher of the Year for 2010.
Jones' selection was announced Thursday night at the school division's 20th annual Teacher Recognition Banquet in the Benjamin Franklin Middle School - West cafeteria.
At the banquet, dozens of teachers and school employees were recognized for perfect attendance, years of service and other achievements during this school year.
The theme for this year's banquet, which attracted more than 300 people, was "Learning Is Music To My Ears."
Speaking after the announcement of her selection as Teacher of the Year, Jones said students "need to know that we care about them as a person and not just a test score."
She thanked her principal, Brenda Hopkins, her family and others who have given her support and encouragement over the years.
"Callaway is a great place to work," Jones said, adding that educators must build a bridge to success for students.
"We need to push all of our students to be all they can be," she said.
"To do this, we must be good role models who admit when we make mistakes as well. Let them know that we, too, are human," Jones said.
Jones received a $500 stipend, a bouquet of roses and gifts from businesses.
Hopkins said Callaway Elementary is fortunate to have Jones to teach and guide the students.
"Kim is passionate about what she does for and with the students of Callaway Elementary," Hopkins said.
"She is committed to the job of providing lessons through her guidance classes to each student with high expectations for all," Hopkins added.
Jones was also Teacher of the Year for Callaway Elementary School.
