A 21-year-old Ferrum College student sustained only minor injuries when he was ejected from his vehicle after the minivan he was driving struck a power pole on Route 40 West and overturned several times Friday morning.
Anthony Cheatwood of Goodview was traveling west on Route 40 when his 1997 Chrysler minivan ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a power pole, according to Trooper S.M. Chaffin with the Virginia State Police.
The minivan flipped end over end and then rolled at least twice before coming to rest against a tree, Chaffin said.
Cheatwood, the lone occupant of the vehicle, was ejected from the vehicle. He was not wearing a seat belt.
Cheatwood received stitches in his ankle at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital and was released, the trooper said.
Cheatwood was charged with reckless driving and failing to wear a seat belt, Chaffin said.
The accident occurred at 7 a.m. on Route 40 West, about one mile east of Skillet Road (Route 757). |
