SOUTH BOSTON -- Franklin County junior Taylor Weidman tallied the match's only goal Tuesday night as the Eagles edged Halifax County, 1-0, in a Western Valley District girls' varsity soccer match.

FCHS's victory is its second this season over the Comets.

Weidman took an assist from Dee Callaway, a fourth-year varsity player, and scored in the first half.

The scoring play was set up by a Candice Bowles corner kick.

FCHS (4-2-1 in the WVD, 8-4-1 overall) outshot Halifax, 22-5, and held an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.

"(Halifax) packed its defense back into our goal area to try and keep us from scoring. They were hoping for a breakaway (on offense), but they never got one,' FCHS head coach Moe Potter said.

Reserve goalkeeper Crissy Moran, a sophomore, registered four saves for FCHS.

The Eagles conclude regular-season play Tuesday against reigning league champion E.C. Glass at Lynchburg City Stadium. Match time is 7 p.m.
